Today is Perfect Picture Book Friday…an amazing link-up that provides parents, teachers and librarians with reviews and activities of the best picture books – both old and new. If you are looking for picture book suggestions, visit children’s author Susanna Leonard Hill’s fantastic resource by clicking on this link.
I’ve got babies on my mind…I’m spending my last day in Chicago, helping to take care of my beautiful (of course) new grand-daughter. I go home tomorrow…it will be hard to leave.
My picture book choice is a no-brainer…one of my favorite baby board books.
Written and Illustrated by Karen Katz
Synopsis: Where are Baby’s hands? Under the bubbles! Where are baby’s eyes? Under her hat! Karen Katz’s adorable babies play peekaboo in this delightful interactive book. The sturdy format and easy-to-lift flaps are perfect for parents and children to share.
Why I love this book:
- The sturdy board book will withstand lots of handling.
- Infants, toddlers and preschoolers will LOVE lifting the flaps to find the answers.
- The simple wide-eyed babies depicted will appeal to every young child.
How parents can use this book:
- Super read aloud and interactive time for parent and child
- Helps build vocabulary and hand-eye coordination
- Encourages cause and effect thinking
Activities:
- For your infant: Play peek-a-boo with your infant
- For your toddler: Hide objects under a towel and let your toddler guess what is there by feeling but not looking
- For your preschooler: Show your child several items (keys, small ball, glove, etc) and place them in a paper bag. Let your child name the items…then take out one and ask which are left in the bag.
LOVE Karen Katz! What an excellent choice for PPBF! Thanks for adding it to our list. Maybe this summer when I get some time to update PPBF I will add a baby section 🙂

Peek-a-boo is one of the most popular baby-toddler games…and I think it helps gives young kids a sense of confidence that even if we don’t see something or someone, they are still there, just not visible. I had a wonderful visit…going home this morning…but plan to come back next month. 🙂

Plain sweetness! Is this a new blog look or a whole new blog (caught my ignorance, didn’t you!). I normally don’t ‘push’ my posts, but the one I have today is one I will be giving to newborns/parents! Hope your Chicago visit was ‘all that’!

Yes…it is a new ‘look’ for my blog…the blog started out so simple…but I kept adding more stuff to the sidebars and it was so distracting…taking people’s attention away from the content of the posts. I’m quite untech savvy…so it was a challenge to figure out how to set up the new theme. Hopefully when I get home – leave Chicago today 😦 – I will be able to add back all of the blog buttons and other info in the bottom sidebar or on a different page. I promise to go and see your post, Julie…might have to wait till I get home…need to get to the airport shortly.:)

I’m already checking on flights for the end of June, Nancy.:) I’ll try to combine it with a trip to see my daughter and grandson in New Hampshire…it makes for a longer trip but perhaps a more economical ticket.

Hope that works out, Vivian.

My kids love that book series of Where is…? They read it way past a reasonable age.

I agree, Milka…older kids love the book as well. I suggested the other activity for kindergarten+ kids because they all love peek-a-boo/hide and seek/where is games. 🙂

We have the Baby Belly Button book, and the kids love it!
Great “items in the bag” activity suggestion, too.

It’s a great book, Marylin! Glad you liked the activities…there are so many things you can do that are fun and free and that encourage a child’s cognitive development.
