It’s the first Perfect Picture Book Friday of 2017! And guess what?

Every book I review this year will be a brand-new book published in 2017!

There are so many beautiful picture books launching this year…and I am excited to be featuring so many of them. PLUS, on almost every Saturday, we are going to turn the spotlight on an author in our Will Write for Cookies series. PLUS, for many of these posts, we’ll be hosting a GIVEAWAY!

Most of you know I am a fan of nonfiction picture books…but I’m more familiar with the ones that tell a story about a historical figure or an event. Today’s story is a bit different—it incorporates science facts in a beautifully illustrated picture book story.

  1. There seems to be a little space theme today for PPBF. First, two books about aliens, and now your book review about the moon. Having an astrophysicist for a father, I grew up with an observatory and telescope on the roof of our home. I often wondered if the kids at school were anxious to be my friend because of who I was or because they hoped to get invited over for one of our evening sky watches through our big telescope. Mom kept the cookies and milk coming while Dad directed the telescope at the moon. I never knew how bright the moon was until I looked at it through the eyepiece. Like looking at the sun, I saw spots for a long time afterward. Today is library day, (truthfully, every day is library day) and I’m adding this book about the moon to my list.

  7. What a rich post, Vivian. I look forward to reading about all the new 2017 publications on your blog, especially as you may focus on non-fiction. Picture books are a great medium for learning. I wasn’t able to preorder “If you were the moon” so hopefully I’ll remember it when it is released. Thanks for all the helpful links. Best wishes.
