Picture Book Review and Activity: DADDY DEPOT plus Giveaway

Happy Perfect Picture Book Friday, dear friends!

I hope all of you have scrolled through yesterday’s #50PreciousWordsforKids post. There were 57 wonderful stories written by kids in grades K-6. Children in six countries and thirteen states participated. And honestly, I read the makings of several awesome picture books. Many of the parents said their children wanted to know when the next challenge would be. I’m thrilled to have created a platform for our future authors. I’ll be reaching out to the friends who generously offered to donate a mini-Skype author visit – I’ll randomly pick one name from each grade level and that child’s class will receive the author visit.

Before we get to our wonderful picture book, we have a giveaway to take care of. Last week, Andria Warmflash Rosenbaum generously offered a copy of TRAINS DON’T SLEEP.

And the winner is…

KIM CHAFFEE.

Congratulations, Kim…let’s connect and I will put you in touch with Andria so she can get a copy of the book out to you!

Today’s picture book review is another of our fabulous 2017 debuts and I know you are going to love it! And the author, Chana Stiefel (who will be here tomorrow on Will Write for Cookies), is offering a copy of the book. So, if you’d like to be entered in the giveaway, please don’t forget to leave a comment.

RELATED ACTIVITIES

Make a Daddy Depot Flip Book

You will need: Construction paper, copy paper, scissors, markers or crayons, stapler.

  1. Make a book by folding several sheets of copy paper in half lengthwise. Staple the center so the pages don’t come loose.
  2. Draw a ‘Daddy’ on each right-hand page. Dress them differently and give them different hair-styles and features.
  3. Cut the pages in three so that you can flip any of the sections and end up with a mismatched Daddy. Kids will love the humor of this!

Make a list of what we love most about daddies. Put it in an envelope and save it for Father’s Day next month. Then make a list of what we love most about mommies…and give it to her tomorrow for Mother’s Day!

Please don’t forget to leave a comment to qualify for the giveaway of a copy of DADDY DEPOT.

And Chana Stiefel and I will see you here tomorrow for her Will Write for Cookies Q&A.

  1. I’ve known this is a heart-warming & humorous take on parent-child relationships since I had the pleasure of reading an early draft at the NJ SCBWI conference years ago. I can’t wait to read the final version & see how the illustrations further the story.

Vivian, wonderful review & I love the flip book activity – what a great story prompt!

  2. Yay! A new book to check out, and one that looks like it delivers giggles along the way. I love your added bonus of the flip book. My daughter is at the right age to enjoy putting one of these together. It reminds me of a puzzle she had when she was little. Now that she loves to draw people and clothing, this will be a great art project for us to do together. Thank you!
