Sorry, friends, I just reread today’s featured book and and it is so much fun, I got a little carried away. But it’s also a book with a serious message which is another reason I love it.

Happy Perfect Picture Book Friday. Before we get to today’s wonderful selection, I wanted to announce some giveaway winners! I’m way behind and I apologize to one and all. Life has gotten a bit busy with preparations for my upcoming trip.

Why I love this book:

  • POW! BAM! KAZZAM! Totally makes me think of  Batman. Kids love superheroes and we definitely need some environmental superheroes these days, especially when it comes to cleaning up the plastic in our oceans. This is a wonderful book to use as a springboard for discussions on how each person can make a difference.
  • Fun-filled cartoon-like illustrations will make this a favorite with kids who love to read and also with kids who don’t.

  1. I’m still up late so thought I would be early for a change posting my PPBF… This is a lovely choice and would be well received here. Love the ideas for the use of bottles in a garden wall. Congrats to all the winners also.

  6. This book perfect for young children. I recently heard a discussion about what young people are most concerned about and the environment is at the top of the list. So bring on the books. Your review was great, but I particularly enjoyed the resources your shared about using plastic bottles to grow plants, make sustainable watering systems for the gardens and making sprinklers! It is a way for kids to start and come up with their own creative ideas!

  10. Oh how timely. I was just walking the beach and picked up a ton of garbage. Rains yesterday and higher than usual waves brought in a lot of junk. I even pick up the tiny pieces. I will be buying this book and sharing it with many people.

    Ran into some people on the beach and the man said, “That’s a big job.” I replied, “Yes, it is. Wouldn’t it be cool if everyone picked up the garbage they found?”

  15. Love this concept. Dan Santat had a small video showing how an elephant picked up the loose tin cans in his yard, and put them in the recycle bin. If it’s not kids, it’s elephants – we’re all in this together and we can help each other out. This looks like a really fun book!

  16. Such an important book. Plastic pollution is getting out of hand, great to have a tool to begin educating kids about the impact of plastic consumption at a very young age.

  17. Thanks so much to Vivian (a.k.a. kindest person in kidlit!) for featuring CAPTAIN GREEN AND THE PLASTIC SCENE and to all of you for your supportive words. Sadly we do need books on saving the seas but I have great faith in the next generation. They are buzzing with bright ideas when I visit them in schools.
