Happy Book Birthday: THE SYLVIE SERIES Plus Giveaway

Put your hands together, my friends…and get ready to sing a rousing Happy Book Birthday for not one, not two, not three, but FOUR books by author Ali Bovis that are launching today! It’s a fabulous series for kids ages 7-11.

We all know how important it is to encourage kids to cherish the planet…and we also know how important it is for books to showcase diverse heroes. Plus we’re all fans of #amightygirl books, right? Well, hold on to your hats, because these books have it all!

Here’s a brief description of the series:

Aspiring activist Sylvie Schwartz dreams of saving the world. If only the world would cooperate. This series will appeal to kids who want to make a difference, dream big, and want to do great things. (It will also appeal to anyone who loves ice cream sundaes or sweet slobbery puppies.) No matter what gets in Sylvies way, your readers will root for Sylvie to succeed, project after project.

SYLVIE: SEA VIEW STAR
Sylvie can’t wait to raise money for the animal shelter for her Make a Difference Day project, but with her frenemy, Camilla, and Sylvie’s foster puppy creating obstacles along the way, she discovers there is more than one way to make a difference. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO.

SYLVIE: SAVE THE BEACH
When faced with the possible closing of her favorite beach, Sylvie first attempts a one-person coastal cleanup march on city hall, but thanks to the town clown, she realizes it will take more than one person to save the beach. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO

SYLVIE: ORGANIZER EXTRAORDINAIRE
Sylvie wants to win her school’s talent show so she can be featured in the local newspaper to garner buzz for her coat drive, but she struggles to figure out her talent. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO.

SYLVIE: EARTH DAY EXTRAVAGANZA
Sylvie’s excitement for the upcoming Earth Day Extravaganza fizzles when her cousin, the non-recycler, visits, and she worries about not only saving the entire world, but the extravaganza itself. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO
If you’d like to learn a little about the author, here is her bio. You know, they say we should write what we know…and Ali has definitely done that:
Ali Bovis is a children’s writer and lifelong altruist. Her debut chapter book series, Sylvie, releases in 2020, published by ABDO books. A Georgetown University graduate, Ali grew up in New York City and now lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband, two children, and two playful poodle-mixes. Like Sylvie, Ali is always dreaming up ways to make a difference in the world. Prior to writing for children, Ali served as Director of Corporate Affairs and Philanthropy for Polo Ralph Lauren. Thanks to Ali, there will be a giveaway of a copy of the first book in the series, SEA VIEW STAR, as soon as the paperback edition launches in January. For a chance to win, please leave a comment below…and please share on your social media so we can get the word out about this fun series for kids…the more you share, the more tickets you get in the giveaway hat.
Please don’t forget that the best way to gift your favorite authors is to support them by buying their books, reviewing their books, telling friends about their books, and asking local libraries to put the books in their collection.
I hope you all have a wonderful week…I’ll be flying to Chicago on December 19th…to spend Christmas with my son and his family. I plan to do one more blog post this year…a COVER REVEAL for PARTY POOPERS by Gretchen McLellan – so please come back tomorrow!

  1. Vivan,

I’m so sorry, but I couldn’t get to your site this time to see this post or the previous one. I clicked on the link and got an error message ‘page not found.” I still see you, a sign that says this is somewhat embarrassing, and the last post (I saw one about the dreidel). I thought I’d let you know, just in case.

I hope I can find you again soon! Rinda

  3. Sounds like a fun and educational series. And, sounds like a series for me and the kids around me. I’ve participated in annual ocean clean-up day here in Maine, coat donations, and of course, recycling!!! I know I’m going to love these books before I read them!!! And, the covers are so appealing. Thanks, Vivian, and congratulations, Ali.

  4. I love the theme of these books, which is that children have the power to make a difference, and that their efforts do count. That is so important for them to hear–and it’s true. I think the world would be transformed if everyone pitched in with the same enthusiasm, optimism, and generosity of children.
