Happy Book Birthday: AVEN GREEN – BAKING MACHINE Plus Giveaway

It’s time to sing Happy Birthday, dear friends. And today’s launch is a CHAPTER BOOK – I’m really excited to celebrate the newest title in this fabulous series by author Dusti Bowling, illustrated by Gina Perry and published by Sterling Children’s Books.

Written by Dusti Bowling – Illustrated by Gina Perry – Published by Sterling Books – Launches August 17

Here’s a short synopsis from Amazon:

Now that third-grader Aven Green has retired from sleuthing, it’s time to conquer a whole new world: baking!
Aven knows she’s an expert baker of cakes and cookies since she’s been baking with her mom for a really long time. Plus no one bakes quite like she does. She cracks eggs with her feet and measures sugar and flour with her feet (plus measuring cups), since she was born without arms. And now Aven has her eye on the prize: a beautiful blue ribbon for baking at the county fair. So she teams up with her friends Kayla, Emily, and Sujata. But it turns out they all have very different tastes and a lot of opinions about baking. Talk about a recipe for disaster!

We all know how important it is for every child to see themselves in book…and one of the most marginalized groups has been the differently-abled. What a joy to see this book – and guess what? It’s a series!

Remember friends, the best way to thank an author for writing a book you love is to buy the book, review the book, tell friends about the book, and ask your local library to purchase copies for their collection.

And thanks to the generous publisher, Sterling Books, we have a giveaway copy that one of you is going to win. Please leave a comment…and share on your social media as much as you can – that helps spread the word about this wonderful book. Kids are always looking for something new to read, right?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Please stay safe and well.

  1. What a great book! Adults are aware of disabilities such as this but children are not and I think it’s a shock when they first encounter a child without arms. This is a great way to introduce them to children who are different from them and yet still able to accomplish many great things in their life. This series will be very beneficial. Congratulations!!

  2. As a librarian and member of the PA Young Readers Choice Award committee, review copies are essential. And good a chapter book series is always needed for our K-3 list. I have not yet heard of this series. Sounds fantastic!

  3. I am BEYOND EXCITED to meet Aven Green! What an AMAZING character! And what a BEAUTIFUL way to show kids can do ANYTHING–that “limitations” are only limitations if we allow them to be. THANK YOU for showcasing this book, Vivian, and for the partnership of Dusti and Gina who brought it to life. SO EXCITED!!!
