Happy Book Birthday: WHEN YOU FIND A HOPE

It’s that joyful time again, dear friends! It’s time to sing Happy Bithday to a brand new book!

What a beautiful book this is! Written by Allie Millington and illustrated by Annie Lambelet and published by Worthy Kids, the book launches TODAY!

And here’s a little bit about the book from the Amazon sales page:
Experience the improbable beauty of a shattered hope born anew in this magical tale about a young girl, a tree full of hopes, and the power of perseverance.

In this tale of unexplained wonder, there is a tree that grows hope from its branches. A curious girl visits the tree and plucks the largest, brightest hope she can find. Her hope can float, so she tethers it to her side and takes it with her everywhere. When the unimaginable happens and her hope is crushed, the girl pieces her hope back together and drags it along behind her until even the pieces are lost—or are they? Looking back, she finds that small trees have begun to sprout in her wake, the beautiful offerings of her now firmly rooted, thriving hope.

The first picture book from bestselling author Allie Millington (Olivetti), this moving story celebrates the importance of holding onto hope and the improbable beauty of a lost hope born anew.

And we are so lucky because author Allie stopped by to chat and share a bit of the story behind the story.
ME: Welcome, Allie!

ALLIE: Thank you so much, Vivian, for helping me celebrate my book birthday!
I originally wrote When You Find A Hope in the middle of my writing journey, after years of trying to become publish and hundreds of rejections. It was inspired by my own season of disappointment—I’d carried this Hope of becoming an author and sharing my stories since I was a child, and at that time in life, it felt like that Hope had been repeatedly crushed with all the No’s and Not Yet’s and Try Agains.

Writing this little picture book helped me put words to the feeling and questions I had—once a hope is crushed can it ever be put back together? Will it ever be the same? Is it worth it holding on to? Through this story, I was beginning to see that sometimes a hope has to be shattered in order to be spread.

I never expected just how that hope of mine would spread years later, once this book found a publisher. I’m immensely grateful that it is out in the world now, for people to read and perhaps find their own hope or healing from disappointment. I’m also grateful for the illustrator, Anne Lambelet, who beautifully captured all the emotions I felt while writing this story.

ME: Thank you so much, Allie. And, dear friends, I hope you will check out this book…here is a bit about Allie and how you can connect with her and find out more about this book and her other books:

  2. What a wonderful concept for a children’s book, Allie. The earlier we learn about new hopes growing out of lost hopes, the stronger we’ll be as we face life’s disappointments and joys.

  3. I just read OLIVETTI after a friend highly recommended it, and what a lovely story! I also grew up plunking away on a typewriter, though not as cool as Mr. O. I cannot wait to read this PB.
