Cover Reveal:  ÁNH’S NEW WORD

Just like the unveiling of a piece of artwork at a museum, the cover reveal of an upcoming picture book is an exciting moment! I’m always thrilled when I get the chance to do that – especially for a book that I’ve seen in early drafts. Hanh Bui is a dear friend – and I couldn’t be happier for her second book in what I know is going to be a long line of titles – she is a prolific writer who pours her heart on the page. And with a cover reveal, the illustrator gets a chance to shine…and Bao Luu’s art is like a beacon of light, radiating warmth and reflecting the emotions of the characters. The book launches from Feiwel and Friends/Macmillan on May 14, 2024…and you are getting the first peek RIGHT NOW! Ready! Set! GO!

It’s time to sing Happy Birthday to a brand-new book again! Hurray for THE PIE THAT MOLLY GREW, illustrated by Chamisa Kellogg and launching TODAY from Sleeping Bear Press!!! I connected with the author, Sue Heavenrich, many years ago when I jumped into the kidlit community – like me, she was participating in Susanna Leonard Hill’s Perfect Picture Book Friday posts, and like me, she was hoping to be a published author one day. And now she has a fabulous list of STEM and STEAM books!

Other times, it’s through contests like #50PreciousWords. Today we are singing a GLORIOUS Happy Birthday to a book written by Ginny Neil who I met when she won Susanna Leonard Hill’s Halloweensie Contest in 2020. Ginny chose me as her prize – I think it was a picture manuscript critique. I LOVED her story…and I read one of her other manuscripts also (this one!). And early in 2021, when I heard that Essie White had just taken on a new agent at Storm Literary, I encouraged Ginny to send Lisa Amstutz something because Lisa loves lyrically written informational fiction – and that’s exactly what Ginny does so well. Ginny did query Lisa…the rest is history. And the result is Ginny’s debut picture book, THE FOREST THAT FIRE BUILT which she wrote AND illustrated!
