Cover Reveal: YUSRA SWIMS Plus Giveaway

Book Birthday posts celebrate the birth of a new book…the day the book officially launches and is available in bookstores. But today, we have a COVER REVEAL post.

Cover Reveal posts are kind of like the ultrasound picture that proud parents frame – that tiny inkling of the awesomeness of what’s to come.

I’m so proud to share with all of you the cover for an upcoming picture book from my dear friend and critique buddy, Julie Abery. It’s nonfiction. It’s about a strong woman. It’s definitely Continue reading

Cover Reveal: Making Their Voices Heard: The Inspiring Friendship of Ella Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe

OH MY GOSH! A couple of days ago, I found out that my Ella Fitzgerald/Marilyn Monroe book had a definite launch date: January 14, 2020. So, I started thinking about who I should ask to do a cover reveal…I thought perhaps I should ask the editor if the cover image I had was the final one. And then, this morning, guess what I discovered?

MAKING THEIR VOICES HEARD: THE INSPIRING FRIENDSHIP OF ELLA FITZGERALD AND MARILYN MONROE is available for preorder on Amazon. With the most glorious cover image I’ve ever seen!!!

This was a manuscript that was very close to my heart. I’m a long-time admirer of the velvety tones of Ella Fitzgerald…and I always believed Marilyn Monroe was so much more than she was given credit for. But it wasn’t until I came across a picture of them at a nightclub that the idea for this story came to me back in 2014.

And the more I researched, the more I came to admire both of these women…trailblazers in the fight for equality! Did you know that Marilyn Monroe was the first movie star to own her own production company? Or that in 1956, Ella Fitzgerald won a lawsuit against Pan Am for racial discrimination?

A few years ago, Bonnie Greer wrote a play about the nightclub incident and it was performed in London.

I’m so grateful to Essie White, my incredible agent, who had faith in me and in this story. And to Little Bee editor, the fabulous Courtney Fahy, who fell in love with the manuscript and believed it should be a book. And to the talented Alleanna Harris whose illustrations have brought the story to life!

I am over the moon excited and just had to share with all of you, my dear friends! And to all my critique buddies whose feedback on dozens and dozens of revisions resulted in this stellar story – I thank you!!!

PICTURE BOOK COVER REVEAL: NINITA’S BIG WORLD

WOW…what an honor! I get to reveal the cover of Sarah Glenn Marsh’s latest picture book!!

ninita_cover

I first fell in love with the subtitle…I mean, how can you not be head over heels about NINITA’S BIG WORLD: THE TRUE STORY OF A DEAF PYGMY MARMOSET? And then I saw the cover…Ninita is super cute, right? The book pubs from Clarion in 2019, and here’s a short blurb to get you thinking about it:

Meet Ninita! She’s a pygmy marmoset—the smallest type of monkey. As a baby, she was the size of a human thumb. Full grown, she fits easily in the palm of a person’s hand.

Ninita is deaf, but that doesn’t stop her from exploring the world. She loves to climb, taste new foods, and follow interesting smells to exciting adventures. With her sharp eyes, Ninita is always spotting things that her pygmy marmoset friend Mr. Big and the other animals miss—sometimes creatures even smaller than she is!

Pygmy marmosets are native to the Amazon rainforest, but Ninita and her friends live at the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation in Florida, where they are helping to save animals from extinction. Published in partnership with the RSCF, this charming story introduces readers to biodiversity and wildlife conservation—and to a tiny, adorable little monkey who is making an important difference in the world.

What a wonderful idea for a story…and based on a true character…that makes it even better! And here is a little bit about the author.

Sarah Glenn Marsh is an author of young adult novels including Reign of the Fallen and Fear the Drowning Deep, as well as children’s picture books like Selfie Sebastian and A Campfire Tail. An avid fantasy reader from the day her dad handed her a copy of The Hobbit and promised it would change her life, she’s been making up words and worlds ever since. She lives in Virginia with her husband and their tiny zoo of four rescued greyhounds, three birds, and many fish.

When she’s not writing, she’s often painting, or engaged in nerdy pursuits from video games to tabletop adventures. You can visit her online at http://www.sarahglennmarsh.com, and follow her on Twitter @SG.

Earlier this year, I featured Selfie Sebastian and A Campfire Tail on Perfect Picture Book Friday and I gave away a copy of each. Maybe next year we’ll be able to turn the spotlight on NINITA’S BIG WORLD: THE TRUE STORY OF A DEAF PYGMY MARMOSET and do a giveaway.

There’s a big beautiful week coming up, dear friends. Happy 4th of July…wherever you are going and whatever you are doing, I wish you joy, peace, and safe travels.

LUCY LOVES SHERMAN

Splashing out from Sky Pony Press in March 2017. Catch more details and learn about the evolution of the cover over at Tara Lazar’s.

And in March, LUCY LOVES SHERMAN will be one of our Perfect Picture Book Friday picks….plus author Catherine Bailey will be visiting for a Q&A and Giveaway on Will Write for Cookies that month.

A little about the author:

Catherine Bailey is a children’s author from sunny Florida. Her current books include MIND YOUR MONSTERS (Sterling Publishing, 2015), HYPNOSIS HARRY (Sky Pony Press, 2016), and LUCY LOVES SHERMAN (Sky Pony Press, 2017) – with more on the way! She has also written for popular children’s magazines such as Highlight’s Hello and Babybug. She is a frequent children’s speaker and has visited with hundreds (and hundreds, and hundreds!) of kids at schools, libraries, stores, and special events.

When Catherine is not writing, or editing, or swatting at mosquitoes, she looks after her husband and two children. All three of them are quite sticky, and none like bedtime, but she loves them anyway. Her prior job titles include Lawyer (interesting), Sailboat Deckhand (fun but occasionally sea-sicky), and Cartoon Network Intern (best job ever, besides writing). Her hobbies include reading, travel, and TJ MAXX. But mostly reading.

Learn more about Catherine and her work at www.catherinebaileybooks.com.

And a little about the illustrator:

Meg Walters is an Illustrator and Designer and she is excited to be illustrating her first picture book, Lucy Loves Sherman, written by Catherine Bailey published in March 2017.

Meg attended Syracuse University where she received her BFA in Illustration. Meg lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children and her yellow dog who snores loudly while she works.

Meg is member of SCBWI and can be reached at meg@crazydogdesign.com.

These marvelous 2017 picture books are exploding with goodness. I’m so excited to be a part of all of this…and since this is a cover reveal…and since it’s all about the love…and since you all know how much I love chocolate…just leave a comment and you’ll be entered to win a yummy bar of gourmet healthy chocolate.
