On Thursdays, I usually try to write about something health-related.
Summer is just around the corner…and temperatures will be heating up soon.
Please remember that your car can be an instrument of death even when it is not moving!
Leaving children in a parked car is ALWAYS dangerous…however, in the summer, when the interior of your car can reach 100 degrees plus in a very short period of time, it is even more important to NEVER leave a child in a parked car.
Even with the windows cracked open, the heat inside can severely damage or kill a child (or a pet).
Read this article from Parenting.com for more information on this subject: Tragedy in the backseat: Hot car deaths.
Let’s resolve to have a safe healthy summer with our children!
If you are hoping to cut down on car trips because of the rising cost of gasoline and the need to watch your budget, there is so much to do right at home. Children don’t need fancy amusement parks or expensive toys. Your time and attention is really what they want and enjoy most!

We’ve all gotten into a super hot car in the summer. How any adult could leave children or pets in that type of situation is beyond my ken. 😦

Yes, but they do. 😦 Maybe if we keep mentioning it during the summer, the message will get through. 🙂

Very important that people don’t do this…..here in Texas, it’s usually well over 100 already without being in a car!
Right now, it’s 90’s so already a chance for it being too hot in the car….and sadly, it DOES happen….we actually had a newborn death in the city I live in…it was back in the Fall…the dad was deaf and it was a new baby…the mom usually dropped the baby off at daycare but couldn’t that ONE morning so the dad was supposed to….and apparently since he wasn’t used to doing so, he forgot, went into work and left the baby in the car…..and since he was deaf, he couldn’t hear the baby….
I don’t really get myself how he could have forgotten but it’s just sad, regardless..:(

Thanks for adding the real scoop Sharon…we can talk about it, but hearing a true story may make a bigger impression on parents AND other caregivers.
I think people just get so distracted with life. The point is: we wouldn’t want to leave a young child in a car alone no matter what the temp was…we all know that…but as you said, it happens.

This is so true yet every summer it happens again and again. Pity! TY for the reminder. 🙂

Maybe we just have to keep saying it and reminding caregivers that a car is not a place to EVER leave a young child…even for less than a minute.
