Happy Valentine’s Day, dear friends. And Happy National Library Lovers Day!
What!!! You didn’t know there was a National Library Lovers Day? Don’t feel too bad…neither did I. But I found out it’s a celebration of libraries and books…and that’s something I always want to do. https://nationaltoday.com/library-lovers-day-february/

When kids begin to outgrow picture books (perish the thought – no one is ever too old for picture books, but you know what I mean), they may not be ready for independent chapter book reading. I remember our family reading time in the evening – my husband and I would take turns with our oldest son, reading books like C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series aloud to the younger children.
But there are intermediate books that can help prepare new readers for the heavier (and some of those books are definitely heavy) stories like the Harry Potter series.
Leveled readers meet children at their current reading ability. And books like PINWHEEL DAYS and FRIENDS AT NIGHT do just that. Here are a few words from editor Skyler Lambert:
Pinwheel Days and Friends at Night, written by Ellen Tarlow and illustrated by Gretel Parker, share the adventures of Pinwheel the donkey and his friends. Each book contains two short stories accompanied by beautiful watercolor illustrations. Simple language, short sentences, and easy-to-understand dialogue capture the endearing friendships that children and parents alike are sure to love!
This Level 3 book in our Star Readers™ series is designed to help kids take a guided approach to reading independence. Each unique level helps readers gain confidence and develop essential reading skills in vocabulary, speech, and critical thinking. With a Level 3 book, children are exposed to in-depth plots and vocabulary, longer sentences, and increased use of dialogue.
The publisher, Star Bright Books, has graciously agreed to sponsor a giveaway of a copy of each of these charming books. Are you a parent with a child who would love to add these books to a home bookshelf? Are you a writer who has been toying with the idea of writing leveled readers and you’d love to use these as mentor texts? Please leave a comment below to be entered for a chance to win this And guess what? There will be TWO WINNERS and publisher is going to send a set of BOTH BOOKS to each winner!
