Happy Perfect Picture Book Friday, dear friends. And hurray, I am home! My trip to France was amazing. I’ve been sharing some photos on social media. I loved traveling with my son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter, but it is good to be home. Or at least, half-way home. I’m still in Illinois for another 10 days. And I also want to give everyone a heads-up about the writing challenge for children that’s coming up in a couple of weeks: #50PreciousWordsforKids…more about that at the end of this post. But meanwhile, I’m so excited to share this beautiful book which we celebrated in a cover reveal several months ago.

FISHING WITH GRANDPA AND SKYE
Written by Candace SpizzirrI
Illustrated by Beverly Love Warren
Published by Clear Fork/Spork (2022)
Ages: 4-8
Themes: Family, fishing
Synopsis from Amazon:
Days on the lake are a Skye and Grandpa thing. They load up their tackle box, hop aboard their skiff, and chug out to their favorite fishing spot. Today, the sun is shining, the fish are jumping, but will Skye hook a big one? FISHING WITH GRANDPA AND SKYE explores the rewards of patience and celebrates the love between generations.
Why I Love This Book:
1. I love intergenerational stories that are so relatable for children.
2. With all of the turmoil in our world, it’s important for young kids to be able to enjoy a sweet story of family togetherness and nature.
3. The illustrations are engaging and they portray the happy emotions of both grandfather and granddaughter.

Another fun activity for kids: Participate in the #50PreciousWordsforKids International Writing Challenge which takes place May 2-6 during Children’s Book Week. Kids write a children’s story in 50 words or less. Parents and/or teachers email the story either pasted into the email or as a word document to me: viviankirkfield@gmail.com by 1 . 1:59pm on May 6. I will post all of the stories in a special Mother’s Day blog on Sunday, May 8th. And all children who wrote a story will receive a Certificate of Participation that parents and/or teachers can download, print out, and personalize with the child’s name. If your child loves to draw and wants to create an illustration, please include that in the email as a jpeg and I will add that to the post.
