I remember several years ago I visited Shirin Shamsi’s home. She read me a story of her heart…a story she wanted to tell…about the Partition and her mother’s experience.
Somehow, Shirin had found the exact perfect way to tell this story. I was connected from the very first moment…and I felt blessed for the opportunity to take a peek at what happened all those long years ago, from the eyes of a child.
I’m sure all of you have favorite authors and illustrators. And when they have a new book coming out, you can’t wait to read it, right? Well, one of my favorite illustrators is Molly Ruttan – and when I found out that her author/illustrator debut picture book was launching in February of 2023, I couldn’t wait to share it with you all. [Correction: not sure how I missed Molly’s 2020 book, THE STRAY. That was her author/illustrator debut – but all that means is there is more Molly Ruttan goodness in the world!)

Happy Perfect Picture Book Friday, dear friends! As soon as I saw the ARC for this book, I know I’d want to share it with all of you. I really connected with the story because I grew up in the projects on the Lower East Side of New York City…and our apartment house was a United Nations of people from all different cultures. I was always grateful for that…and author Francie Dekker and illustrator Sarah Jung have captured the joy of that situation.
