Aren’t we so lucky? The creativity of this kid-lit community is off the charts. It’s time to sing Happy Book Birthday for SET SAIL FOR PANCAKES! This is the debut picture book from author/illustrator Tim Kleyn. And even though it’s a book birthday for his book, HE is giving the gift…a copy of this beautiful book to one lucky winner! Please make sure you leave a comment on this post – maybe you can share your favorite type of pancakes.

Here’s a bit about the book from the Amazon sales page:
Hungry for adventure . . . and breakfast? Set sail with a grandpa and his intrepid granddaughter as they look far and wide for the perfect pancake ingredients!
Margot and her grandpa have tummies grumbly for pancakes. Only there’s a problem . . . there’s no flour, milk, or eggs! But Grandpa has the perfect solution; they’ll get on his boat the Beluga Blue and go to Chicken Island, Cow Island, and Flour Mill Island to get the ingredients. Set sail for pancakes!
And here’s a bit about author/illustrator Tim Kleyn:
Tim Kleyn grew up in West Michigan. He earned his BFA in Illustration from Kendall College of Art & Design and soon after graduation married his highschool sweetheart. He now enjoys a charmed life with his wife and their young daughter. Tim works as a graphic designer and in his free time he likes having a good laugh, a good meal, and a good sit.

Tim was kind enough to stop by and share a bit about the challenges he faced…I know we all love to get a peek at the journey along the path to publication:
TIM: Self-confidence has always been the biggest hurdle in my journey to publication, but with the help and encouragement of so many people, I kept going and I cleared the jump. I’ve learned that it’s pretty standard to fall on your face a bunch of times. The trick seems to be to just keep going, and I’m so thankful that I did!
Those are great words of encouragement, Tim…thank you so much! And thank you for offering the giveaway of a copy of SET SAIL FOR PANCAKES!
Remember friends, if you want your favorite books to succeed, please consider buying them, reviewing them, telling friends about them, and asking your local library to purchase copies for their collection.

And don’t forget to leave a comment! My favorite pancakes have blueberries in them…I remember making them into teddy bear shapes for my kids…and I’d use the berries for eyes, nose and mouth…and belly button! What are your favorite type of pancakes?
this looks so great! I’m going to find it.

This book looks adorable! We have pancake Sunday every week at our house. Blueberry 🫐 is definitely my favorite, though I am sometimes persuaded to add chocolate chip to our daughter’s stack. 🙂

In England, we celebrate a Pancake Day–yum!! Your illustrations also look so fun! My personal fave would have to be Ebelskivers dipped in honey. Yummy!

A Michigan author! I love finding talented authors from my home state. My favorite pancakes are peanut butter pancakes topped with fresh strawberries.

Hi, Tim. I love this idea! We were always a big pancake family when the kids were little (ok, they’re big and still love them!). Before the thought of salmonella poisoning, my kids would fight over who got to lick the beaters. We had to put their turns to lick beaters on the calendar! Hmmm? Maybe there’s a story there!

My mom got good at free handing shapes and made us dinosaur shaped pancakes. She was a preschool teacher and used us as “Guinea pigs”/practice. Which I didn’t mind at all because it meant we got pancakes for dinner. Which is just the best.

This looks like a fabulous book that this pancake-loving mum over here would love! Also just wanted to say thank you so much for your honesty, Tim. Struggling with self-confidence is something I battle with too, but I have found that continuing on, as you said, is the best way to push through 😀

Congratulations! My grandchildren will love this book. Especially since they love pancakes. I love huckleberry pancakes made with huckleberries we pick in the mountains. They’re even better if we’re camping!
