WHY I LOVE THIS BOOK:
1. I love stories that young children can relate to! Many children grow up in apartments where pets are not allowed. And even kids who lives in houses may be told ‘no’ when they ask if they can have a pet.
2. I love the STEM element of Luna taking care of a plant – and there is a back matter activity that encourages the child reader to grow their own ‘pet’.
3. The illustrations are full of heart and humor – and the color palette is very nature-friendly!

  4. What a perfectly adorable book! As an avid gardener AND an animal lover (who can’t have pets due to too much travel), this is a book I’m eager to read. Beautiful illustrations, too.

  5. I’m wondering what those green bumps on Stephanie are so I’ll have to read this book! I grew up on a farm so I can’t really remember a first pet—we had so many. But I did have a cat I named Albert until she had kittens…then she became Alberta!😂

  6. Can’t wait to read Luna’s Green Pet! Congratulations, Kirsten. Plants do need love and attention. It sounds as if Luna is creative and imaginative and caring, as well as ready to learn about science. I hope your book plants the seeds of many future Stephanies.

  7. I love the premise of this story and the stem elements, too! Congratulations, Kirsten! I look forward to reading it. I was blessed with lots of “pets” growing up on a farm, but my favorites were always the baby kitties.

  14. I believe a lot of kids love growing their own plants. I remember always wanting a Chia plant at Christmas as a kid. But, it is a perfect way to introduce kids to plants seeds inside, nurturing them and watching them grow and bloom. Lovely share today with great activities.

    • Yes! Partly! I loved the idea of a night blooming, fragrant plant and wanted a name that alluded to that. There are beautiful Luna moths who visit the fragrant, night-blooming flowers of Luna’s Stephanotis floribunda. It is one of my favourite spreads in the book!

    • Yay for all the Lunas out there! There so many books about pet dogs and cats, I hope this offers a fun alternative for kids. We all want to nurture something and plants can be very rewarding 🙂
