Happy Mother’s Day – And Happy #50PreciousWordsforKids

Happy Mother’s Day to every person who fills that role – moms, grandmothers, teachers, babysitters, daycare providers, neighbors…and yes…sometimes dads!

My daughter and grandson – 16 years ago!

And Happy #50PreciousWordsforKids!

Life gets very busy – perhaps that’s why we only had a few submissions. And I know that the cutbacks in Education and elsewhere are very stressful for teachers and parents…actually, for probably everyone who cares about the future of our country. But I urge parents and teachers to continue to encourage their children to express themselves through words and pictures. WE MUST ALL FIND WAYS TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD! And there is really no deadline for our goal to inspire young people to tell their stories – and I’m happy to add any stories that come in throughout the course of the year.

But meanwhile, I’m thrilled to share the stories we received.

SAVANNAH’S WALK by Uma, age 6, grade 1 (50 words)

One night my dad took my dog Savannah out.

My dad saw something. He saw glowing eyes.

My dad said, “What is that?”

The glowing eyes followed them.

My dad and Savannah walked and then ran home!

The next morning my dad told us.

He said it was a coyote.

THE STALLIONS by Maeve, age 9, grade 3 (50 words)

The grassland is a vast and wild place where horses roam free.

In the middle a young foal plays. His legs are still thin.

His mom comes and leads him to the leader of the herd.

The stallion greets him, and suddenly he realizes he will lead one day, too.

THE BLUE CHICKEN by Thomas, age 8, 3rd grade, Massachusetts

BANANA SLUG by Maya, Ruby, and Eleanor, 4th grade, Virginia

                                                    Gooey Banana, Gooey Banana!

His trail might feel like glue,

                                                        But it’s actually his poo!

                                                                 Is that true?

                                                Gooey Banana, Gooey Banana!

                                                      He might look like food,

                                                But when you taste him,

                                                He actually tastes like goo,

                                                                  Ew, Ew!

CONGRATULATIONS to all!!! As a writer, I know that it takes courage to sit down, tell your story, and then share it with the world.

Hurray! Those were awesome stories! I love how each is unique! Each had drama and action! Well done, young writers!

Each child received a Certificate of Participation that can be printed out and personalized!

I hope you all have a fabulous Sunday! Happy Mother’s Day!
