Book Birthday posts celebrate the birth of a new book…the day the book officially launches and is available in bookstores. But today, we have a COVER REVEAL post.
Cover Reveal posts are kind of like the ultrasound picture that proud parents frame – that tiny inkling of the awesomeness of what’s to come.
I’m so proud to share with all of you the cover for an upcoming picture book from my dear friend and critique buddy, Julie Abery. It’s nonfiction. It’s about a strong woman. It’s definitely on my must-own list. And, if you leave a comment and SHARE this post on your social media channels, you’ll be entered into the giveaway for a chance to win a copy of this book as soon as it launches Spring 2020.
Written by Julie Abery
Illustrated by Sally Deng
Published by Creative Editions (Spring 2020)
Brief synopsis: As a girl in Damascus, Yusra Mardini loved to swim. But then war intervened. Julie Abery’s spare, rhyming verse relates Yusra’s journey from her beloved home in Syria to a sinking boat on the Aegean, and finally to Germany where Yusra swims again and achieves her dream.
I saw this manuscript as a rough draft – and even then, my heart was captured by the power of the story and the beauty of Julie’s text. Now there are illustrations! YAY! And if the cover is any indication of what we will see when we turn the pages, WOW!
Don’t forget to leave a comment…and please share on your social media so we can get the word out about this fabulous upcoming picture book…the more you share, the more chances you have to win the giveaway copy of YUSRA SWIMS. If you don’t want to leave it to chance…you can check out the book and preorder on Amazon. And please remember, your local library wants to increase their collection of beautiful books for children – let them know they need this one on their shelves.
And reviews are such an important thing we can do for our favorite authors…Amazon requires the book to be officially launched, but Goodreads allows reviews now: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46208135-yusra-swims
